DESCRIPTION

If installing the Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition or Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Edition operating systems using HP-Branded ROK media, there will not be a prompt to enter a product key during installation. As a result, this will set the server in Evaluation mode.

SCOPE

Any ProLiant server installation with either of the following HP-Branded Reseller Option Kits (ROK):
  • Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition
  • Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Edition

RESOLUTION

As a workaround, manually install the product key and activate the operating system by performing the following steps:
  1. Write the product key down so that it will be available when needed; it is located on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label on the server.
  2. Log into the server console as Administrator or with an account having admin privileges.
  3. To install the product key, type the following command from the command prompt and press the ENTER button:

    cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -ipk
  4. A message will be displayed indicating the product key was successfully installed.
  5. To activate the operating system, type the following command from the command prompt:

    cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -ato
  6. Press the Enter button and the following message will be displayed:
  7. "The product activated successfully"
